The easiest way to understand car culture is to hear it happening in real time, with engines cooling in the parking lot and families weaving between rows of chrome. We’re live from the Easter weekend Tailpipes and Tacos cruise-in at Lupe' Tortilla Tex-Mex in Katy, Texas, where breakfast tacos, hot sauce debates, and a surprise Easter Bunny are all part of the soundtrack.

Then we jump into a fast, addictive “sold car roundup” game: we name a car, guess the sale price, and reveal what it actually brought at auction. The numbers are eye-opening, from a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro that lands at $66,150 to a Bullitt-styled 1967 Mustang in the same range. We hit plenty of variety along the way, including a 1969 Pontiac Firebird, a 1977 Pontiac Le Mans, a budget-friendly 1978 AMC Concord wagon, a clean 1962 Oldsmobile Starfire, a 1969 Mercury Cougar, and the quirky-cool 1975 Bricklin SV-1 with its standout doors. If you care about classic car values, collector car trends, and real-world auction comps, this segment gives you a lot to react to.

The morning turns fully community-focused as we hand out kids’ pedal-car awards and then bring in the chili pepper trophies: Best Classic goes to a ’57 Chevy Bel Air, Best Modern Classic to a 1980 Ferrari 308 GTSi, and Best Hot Rod to a 1966 Chevelle gasser. We also spotlight the charitable heart of the event, supporting Shirley’s Kids, and why cruise-ins like this keep the hobby growing.

If you had fun with the price guesses and trophy picks, subscribe to In Wheel Time, share this with a car friend, and leave a review. What car from our list would you bring to Tailpipes and Tacos?

Live At Tailpipes And Tacos

Don Armstrong

It's the award-winning In-Wheel Time Car Talk Show, an argument with David Ainsley. Yeah. Coming to you from the Easter edition of the Tailpipes and Tacos Cruise In at the Lupi Tritia Texpex in Katy, Texas. I got 20 bucks on him. Just ahead. More folks from today's extravaganza. We're going to give away the trophies here in a minute. Jeff will have the car culture feature. We'll go in there again.

SPEAKER_02

All right.

Don Armstrong

Did you do the feature feature? You did that one? Yeah. I'm I'm the big feature. Yep, the big feature. The big big feature. You did it all. I've done it all.

SPEAKER_02

Would you like me to do it again?

Don Armstrong

You know, Kathy likes it when you go there.

SPEAKER_02

I know. Do you want me to do it again?

Don Armstrong

Not yet. No, but you may have to. Alright. I'm here for you. Thank you. We hope you'll stay with us. We're going to have lots of surprise. Just like I'm surprised.

SPEAKER_00

We're always surprised.

Tacos Hot Sauce And Banter

Don Armstrong

How do you want to get out of this week? George Zeken, Chief Engineer at Ainsley. Jeff Heitzman. Thank you very much. We're waiting to get the uh the secret ballot. Oh yeah. We're not being asked to actually eat any of the candy. Well, I had a taco. Did you guys get a taco this day? Wonderful.

SPEAKER_02

Wonderful, wonderful.

Don Armstrong

Man, that hot sauce is absolutely superb. I'd like to take that home. I can put that on everything. You can. You can put that on everything. Not that hot sauce. That's awful hot sauce. Have you ever tried that? Once Frank's? God, it's awful. Just awful. Our next guest is Frank. Um I can do this. We can plug in further. You want to do this? Yeah, let's do it. Okay, so Jeff Heisman's uh get over there, Jeffrey. Jeff, please.

NASA Artemis Check In

SPEAKER_02

How's the program going?

Don Armstrong

What program? The Artemis program. Oh, the Artemis program. Jeffrey's involved with NASA. Yeah, I know, but are you involved with the Artemis program, Jeff? Have you been involved with the Artemis program? Yes, I have.

SPEAKER_03

I'm not this particular flight, but uh future flights. Yes.

Don Armstrong

Okay, wonderful. Yeah. Are you going on one?

SPEAKER_03

Uh I'd like to. Okay. I'd like to. But uh, I'm too old.

Sold Car Price Guessing Game

Don Armstrong

Yeah. Well, we all are for everything. Yeah. So Jeff Heitzman's joining us for our sold car roundup. It's something that we play this listening game of how much you think that the sold car went for. The final slam hammer to the ground.

SPEAKER_02

There you go.

Don Armstrong

So our first this morning is the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. It looks like a pace car, white with orange racing stripes. This is an SSRS. So, how much do you think that that actually sold for? Anybody?

SPEAKER_02

I can't see it. Um, I was trying to get around where lights we could see. I'm gonna go 32. 32?

Don Armstrong

32.

SPEAKER_03

Oh. I'll go with 29.

Don Armstrong

Would you like to take a guess, David? You've got a headset and a microphone. Yeah, he's giving me a hard time about putting a wind sock on a microphone, so uh he's over there concerned about that. 27. 27? It sold for$66,150. Well, I think we should pool our money.

SPEAKER_02

Ouch.

Don Armstrong

Next up is a 1967 Ford Mustang. Now, this I'm I'm gonna tell you right now, it looks like it looks like a they sold some cars that had the trim level on, and this is what it looks like. It looks like an actual bullet car. Is it a bullet car? I don't know, but it looks good. And my guess is that it's probably got all of the things that the bullet car had on it, uh based on the price of it. That should give you a hint what it sold for. 60?

SPEAKER_03

Well, if it's a bullet car, it'll go 65.

Don Armstrong

65.

SPEAKER_03

58.

Don Armstrong

58. You win Jeff Heitzmann at 66,150. You went over. Bob Barker? No, he didn't. He said 65. I had I said 65. 66.

SPEAKER_02

George was at 55,000.

Don Armstrong

And George is finally coming.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think I can't see the part of the screen real good.

Don Armstrong

Okay, so we're gonna go. Okay, okay. So um, we're asking that all of the children that are here, parents that are uh hopefully controlling some of them, that they go over by the pedal cars. Okay. So they're calling all the children to go over by the pedal cars because we have a special thing for you children to do. You need to go over by the pedal cars. That that child right there. He's ignoring you. I know. Well, it must be your child. Yeah, but probably so. All right, so the number three car up is the 1969 Pontiac Firebird. How much do you think that an original Pontiac Firebird would go? Now, this is not the this is not the Burt Reynolds Transam, this is the Pontiac Firebird. With the chrome grill up front on the nose. 27. 27 31.

SPEAKER_03

This is 45.

Don Armstrong

George says 45. What would you like?

SPEAKER_03

22.

Don Armstrong

22. Well, George wins because the 669 John Pontiac Firebird went for 49, 875. George probably has George wishes he has one. Now here's one, George. And all of us, actually. This is a 1977 Pontiac Le Mans. Oh. Or as we used to call them Le Mansion. Which is the below the Grand Prix. Yes. Yes. It's a two-door, and it's got the opera window in the back, but it's kind of uh tilted down there. 17. 17. 21. 21.

SPEAKER_02

23.

Don Armstrong

23.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know if George is off a car or what, but he's got 45. Oh my god, no.

Don Armstrong

He's smoking.

SPEAKER_02

He must be a car off.

Don Armstrong

No, he's trying to get rid of that hemp that they've outlawed.

SPEAKER_02

I'm sorry. 2027,999. How about 11,025?

Don Armstrong

That's a nice looking car. Yeah, it is. For a lot.$11,000. You can do this. Yeah, really? A Lamont. And you could have driven it up here, Dave. Put it in the show. You can wear a beret with a Lamont. Do you have a garage?

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

Don Armstrong

Do you put a car in it?

SPEAKER_03

Yes. My my my Kia Optima.

Don Armstrong

But do you have room for another car?

SPEAKER_03

No. Could you? I'd have to add on to the garage.

Don Armstrong

You couldn't get rid of all the crap that you got in there? Probably. You add a parking room. Yeah. Yeah. Just saying. Transmissions and batteries. Next up, this is a Mars car on all the this is a Mars car. Okay? That should say it all. Right there. This is a 1978 AMC Concorde. A 1978 MC Concorde. And uh when she listened, when she listened to these hands, gonna go nuts. I'm gonna go uh 15.

SPEAKER_02

15. 17. 17. George says 12999. 8,000. 8,000.

Don Armstrong

David Ainsley wins. It went for$6,100. This is the car you need in your collection, Stan Holt, a 1978 AMC Concorde. It's a station wagon. Do you remember that? Oh my god. Yeah, I know. He'd put an LS in it. Here's another one. How about a 1962 Oldsmobile Starfire? Remember those? Oh yeah. This thing was massive.

SPEAKER_04

Oldsmobile.

Don Armstrong

Yes, it's yes, it's got that big thing down the side of it. 11,000. 11,000. How much? 35? Oh, with new? No. In 1962? No. Yeah, I believe it. No. How much, David? 11,000 for me. 11,000. This is sold at auction. Huh?

SPEAKER_03

7,000.

Don Armstrong

7,000.

SPEAKER_03

9,000.

Don Armstrong

9,000?

SPEAKER_02

Jeff? 11. 11,000. George says 9999.

Don Armstrong

$24,150. It looks completely stock and original and beautiful. They put more air in the tire now. Two-door hard top. It's bad to the bone. Here's one for you. A 1969 Mercury Cougar. Now you know for decades. The one with the Mercury Cougar was just a glorified Mustang. 32,000. 32. Yes.

SPEAKER_03

I had a 67. I'm gonna go with 28. 28? Very envious of that.

SPEAKER_02

I had a cougar cost a lot more than that, but 21. Not that kind of four wheels, David. Four wheels.

Don Armstrong

It went for 21. You said 21? It went for 22,575, actually. All right, now last one this morning is, and Stan Stan would love to have this. This is a 1970. We're just done, we're just about done here. Did you meet my grandson? 1975 Brickland, a Brickland SV1. 19. 19. They're calling all the children over for the car show over here. They're having, yes. So so my daughter's here, my grandson is here. We'll meet those in a minute. A 1975 Bricklin SV1. This is a two-door, uh, it's bad to the bone looking car with the dull wing doors. 1920. Remember the Brickland? Yeah, yeah. Bricklin S V1. So this is a 75 model. How much do you think?

SPEAKER_03

22.

Don Armstrong

22. 19. 19?

SPEAKER_02

30. I think George is at 25,995.

Don Armstrong

Well, uh David went because it sold for 28,875. And it's it's all what? That's right. Yeah, and then and it's a uh planted in it was uh the song uh from Question Mark and the Mysterians.

SPEAKER_03

96 Tears. Yes.

All this is gonna flip, and he's going to be another person altogether sooner or later. Okay, our second award winner is Kira, age two, age two with the pink Ferrari.
